Sciatica is fairly common during pregnancy

Sciatica is a set of symptoms that is characterized by pain down the leg. Usually sciatica comes from problems in the spine. Sciatica is diagnosed with a medical history and physical exam. Your health professional will ask you questions about your symptoms. Sciatica is considered a symptom of another condition.

Sciatica is pain in the buttock and leg, caused by pressure on nerves in the lower back. The pressure can be triggered by slipped vertebral discs, pinched nerves or some forms of arthritis. Sciatica is a symptom of a problem at some point along the sciatic nerve rather than an ailment in and of itself. A herniated disc in the back, spinal stenosis and piriformis syndrome are medical disorders that can cause sciatica. Sciatica is a fairly common condition and in Dr. Groff?s estimation, as many as 85 percent of the patients he sees who are experiencing lower back pain have a positive diagnosis.

Sciatica is fairly common during pregnancy. In the final months of pregnancy, the weight of the uterus may exert pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is defined as pain along the course of the sciatic nerve or its branches and is commonly caused by a herniated disc or spinal stenosis. It is usually combined with low back pain, which affects the lumbosacral region, buttocks and thighs. Sciatica is a sensation of leg pain, weakness, numbness or tingling that originates from a sciatic nerve. The two sciatic nerves each run from the lower back through the hip and buttock and down the back of the leg.

Sciatica is severe leg pain which goes down the leg in a particular area, usually a clearly defined narrow strip of skin. There is no vagueness about the feeling. Sciatica is generally caused by the compression of lumbar nerves L4 or L5 or sacral nerves S1, S2 or S3, or far less commonly, by compression of the sciatic nerve itself. When sciatica is caused by compression of a dorsal nerve root (radix ) it is considered a lumbar radiculopathy (or radiculitis when accompanied with an inflammatory response) from a spinal disc herniation (a herniated intervertebral disc in the spine ), or from roughening, enlarging, and/or misaligning of the vertebrae ( spondylolisthesis ), or degenerated discs . Sciatica is caused by the sciatic nerve being pinched. But the pinching can be caused by either a muscle spasm (my case), or by disks in your backbone.

Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve , causing the pain. It is a signal that something is not right and to look for the underlying cause. Sciatica is a common kind of back pain. Although sciatica can be very painful, it is rare for the disorder to cause permanent nerve damage. Sciatica is a condition involving pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It occurs when there is damage to the sciatic nerve.

Sciatica is particularly frustrating to the medical doctor because in many cases even strong pain killing drugs bring little or no relief. However, medical relief may be obtained from injections of painkillers directly into the nerve roots. Sciatica is a very well known affection. Its definition can be found in any pathological treatise, so We do not make an attempt to define it. Sciatica is a painful condition in the region of the lower back and hip, affecting about half of all people with serious back conditions.
