Sciatica most often starts with a long period of intermittent mild low back pain

Sciatica most often starts with a long period of intermittent mild low back pain

The pain is often so mild in the beginning that many sufferers cannot recall when it started. Sciatica can often be traced to one or more misaligned vertebrae. Eventually, damaged nerves can restrict your joint movement, which interferes with the transport of lubrication to your discs. Sciatica usually only affects one leg. The pain may be felt in the buttock, down the back of the leg, below the knee and in the foot.

Sciatica is related to the sciatic nerve which is the thickest and stongest nerve in the body. The nerve can sustain a hanging weight of 700kg (the weight of 7 adult men) before breaking. Sciatica-like pain can also be caused by a condition called piriformis muscle syndrome. The piriformis muscle is a flat, pyramid-shaped muscle in the pelvis. Sciatica merely describes a set of signs and symptoms that may be caused by any disorder that places pressure on the sciatic nerve. There are many different disorders that may cause sciatic pain but some of the more common includes.

Sciatica flare-ups may or may not involve back pain. The pain can be “referred” to other areas. Sciatica is a powerful word. The mere mention of it can send shudders through anyone who has suffered its burning, shooting pain. Sciatica is a term used to describe a set of symptoms, not an actual medical diagnosis. Sciatic pain starts in the lower back from a pinched nerve.

Sciatica involves compression or irritation of the nerves exiting from the lower spine. Each of the two sciatic nerves is formed by nerves branching off the spinal cord and running down into the legs to the toes.

Sciatica is an extremely painful condition involving your sciatic nerve. Your sciatic nerve is the largest and longest nerve in the human body which extends along the back of the leg from the buttocks to the inside of the ankle. Sciatica is the worst. I only get it now and then and it is usually tied to a monthly thing (cough cough). Sciatica is used to describe pain in the lower back, in the rear, down the back of the leg, and maybe even into the foot, usually only on one side of the body. It could also be accompanied by numbness, tingling and burning/prickling.

Sciatica can be very frightening especially if you do not realize what is wrong. You begin to feel that you may become crippled, although most of the time sciatica can be treated effectively. Sciatica-like pain patterns can be referred from gluteal and hip flexor muscles. The gluteus maximus or buttock muscle is the biggest of the 639 named muscles in the human body.

Sciatica usually affects one side of the body, and the pain may shift from stinging and sharp to tingling and numb. Depending on the person, standing too long, sitting too long, sneezing, coughing, or laughing can trigger or worsen sciatica pain. Sciatica is the name people give to a pain in the buttock, leg or foot brought on as a direct result of some form of irritation to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body.
