Sciatica is not just a disease or ailment
Sciatica is a general term used to describe a radiating pain down the buttock, thigh, and/or leg. Similar terms used to describe this symptom include lumbar radiculopathy and radiculitis. Sciatica is a symptom of another medical problem, not a medical condition on its own. Sciatica is the trapping of a nerve that gives the patient pain down the back of the leg. The usual cause of this is inflammation, and as a first aid measure, the patient can use anti-inflammatory creams to lessen the effect of swelling.
Sciatica is commonly caused by two conditions, bone spurs — abnormal bone growth — and disk protrusion — torn and bulging disks in the spine. These conditions can both put pressure on the sciatic nerve , causing sciatica. Sciatica is quite simply irritation of the sciatic nerve. This can happen several different ways at a few different points in the nerve's journey from the low back to and through the leg. Sciatica is most commonly caused by a slipped disc in the lower back, some form of arthritis, or a pinched nerve. It begins with back pain, followed by calf or hamstring pain, and sometimes included numbness in the toes.
Sciatica is a symptom, which is caused due to the compression of the nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve. It may as well cause due to the compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself. Sciatica is caused by spinal stenosis, herniated disc or piriformis syndrome. If you suffer from back pain or sciatica, then there are some exercises . Sciatica is a common and costly problem, caused by a variety of conditions: disk herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, facet joint osteoarthritis or other arthropathies, spinal cord infection or tumor, or spondylolisthesis. The best evidence recommendations for management of acute back pain differ somewhat from those for management of acute sciatica.
Sciatica is not just a disease or ailment or even a diagnosis by itself that would point to any particular cause of pain, rather it is a set of symptoms. Generally it is used for any pain that is caused by the irregular compression or nuisance in one or more of the nerves in the lower part of the spinal chord that make up the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is a symptom of another problem in the body, such as a herniated disk, lumbar spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, pelvic instabilities or Piriformis Syndrome. It is important to remember that, while Pilates work can increase sciatica symptoms, it is not a cause of the condition. Sciatica is a common ailment for those who suffer also from diabetes, as the blood glucose levels of the diabetic can and does often lead to nerve damage in various regions of the body. The disorder is also commonly caused by ruptured disks in the back, as such a condition can easily lead to excess pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve.
